10 Commonly Asked Questions about our Beer Glasses

Q #1: How are they made?

A: Once we have an empty, clean beer bottle we need to preheat them to 900¬ƒF in a kiln. They are balanced upside down on their lips and each beer bottle is then picked up separately by a trained glassblower on a "punty". This is a 5 foot metal pipe with some molten glass on the end. This is so the glassblower can hold the bottles at these extreme temperatures. The bottles are then stuck into a glass oven and heated to 2150 F in order to stretch the neck of the bottle open. Once the desired shape is reached the glass is placed back into a kiln to cool for 12 hrs.

Q #2: What is the mark on the bottom?  Is it a flaw?

A: The mark on the bottom is called a "punty" mark. It is where our ’Äúpunty’Äù is attached to the bottle. It is the sign that something is handblown.

Q#3: Are they made from beer bottles?

A: Yes they are.

Q #4: How did you put the label on?

A: We didn’Äôt. The labels are the original labels from the beer bottle.

Q #5: Why does the label not get ruined/burned off/disappear?

A: The label is made of glass paint and cooked onto the bottle during their manufacturing process. It is permanently attached and can never come off, similar to the decals on china plates.

Q #6: Will the label come off in the dishwasher?

A: No the label is permanently attached. We heat them to 2150¬ƒF and they are still there. Your dishwasher is defiantly not that hot!

Q #7: Can you do Bud/ Labatt's/Molson/Stella/Guiness etc.?

A: No. Those bottles have paper labels. Paper burns!

Q #8: Do they hold a full beer?

A: Yes. They are made from beer bottles.

Q #9: But don't you cut them?

A: No, we use the entire bottle. If you look closely at the lip of the glass you can see it is slightly thicker than the rest of the glass. That is the lip of the bottle where the beer cap was.

Q #10: Are they dishwasher safe?

A: Yes they are.
